Dohas
or couplets
were an integral part of
Delhi culture.
Traditionally dohas were used in Mathur weddings to decorate, add
love and raunak to the clothes given to the bride to her and her
in-laws. There is a
doha
for every occasion,
for every type of saree and even food that is sent on the Mehendi
eve to the grooms house.
Mathur weddings (though not anymore) are known to be fairly simple
compared to the usual Delhi/Punjabi standards; more than material
lenden, the emphasis is to do everything with shauk and raunak.
Madhur Mathur has even compiled a book of dohe titled Bindiya
Chamkegi.
